It is most famous for the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, an epic 13-day siege fought by Texan and Tejano defenders against the Mexican army. Despite its eventual fall, "Remember the Alamo" became a rallying cry for Texas' struggle for independence, which was achieved later that year.
